Information & Policies

Arts for All!

Enrollment:
Enroll your child before each SPCAA quarter for an eight-week series of MUSICAL BEGINNINGS classes. At the discretion of the instructor, classes may need to be rescheduled or combined with similar age groups/classes if the minimum enrollment is not met. (Minimum enrollment is three children per class.)

When to Arrive:
Plan to arrive 5 minutes early for class.  Arriving a little before class provides time for your child to settle in to the musical environment as they prepare to enjoy exploring instruments, reading books or listening to music.  Arriving early will also allow for class to start on time.

What to Bring:
Dress comfortably.  Please keep toys, juice cups and pacifiers out of sight, and finish snacks prior to entering class.

Expectations for Class:
During class, the most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model. It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. Don’t be discouraged – what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class. The understanding and consistency of the parent in class and at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth.

You and your child will greatly benefit from the MUSICAL BEGINNINGS experience, especially if you sing and dance with your child outside of class.  Reinforcement at home during the week makes a difference in a child’s comfort and security in the classroom.

I’d love for parents to visit before class, during gathering time or after class on Saturdays, but not during class time, please!  When you are an active, focused and enthusiastic participant in class, your child will model your actions and focus more fully too.

Please know: it is fine if your child is hesitant and/or distracted in the group environment. If your child cannot focus on the group activity, please don’t worry, but help them to participate in their own way.

Make-up Classes
From the instructor: I will do my best to make up classes in the event of teacher illness or inclement weather.  I am happy to allow students who miss a class to attend another age-appropriate class that week. Simply call or e-mail in advance to schedule a make-up.

Inclement Weather Policy
In case of inclement weather, I will follow the Geneva City School District decision on closing for classes. If the schools are closed, there will be no kinder classes.  If the schools are delayed, there will be no morning classes.  If the schools close early, there will be no classes after that time.  If evening activities are cancelled, so are evening classes.

Satisfaction Guaranteed

If you aren’t completely happy with your child’s experience after your first four sessions, please let me know that you wish to discontinue and you will be issued a refund for the unused classes.  Any materials you receive will be yours to keep and enjoy, unless you wish to return them. Feel free to ask questions, mention concerns, and share your observations of growth and progress.
